Black Men’s ALLIANCE

Nurtures communities to alleviate the inequities, social isolation, and racism that impact the success of Black Students

BMA

Since 1994, the UC Santa Cruz Black Men’s Alliance (BMA) has supported and strengthened the community of Black men. Through BMA, many Black men establish various relationships with each other and other individuals interested in their success. BMA helped many Black men complete their degrees at UC Santa Cruz. Since September 2020, several alumni members of the BMA have been meeting weekly to discuss various topics such as enrollment, retention, graduation rates of Black college students in California and creating action plans for change.

This organization is our vehicle for change.

The BMA Alumni has established the following goals:

Student Debt Forgiveness

To put a stop to continued inequities in ownership, professions, wealth and career trajectory that stem from financial hardships of college.”

Networking opportunities

To form a broader and greater network of successful alumni, which will help expand the range and depth of support given to future generations of students.

To establish the means to more effectively locate and assist existing students that may be experiencing easily resolved difficulties and challenges and bring the assistance that could be the difference between academic success and failure.

Mentorship programs

To create an additional resource of support for students through alumni mentorship with elements of financial literacy, career preparation and life skills preparedness.
